On January 21, 2025, at approximately 10:07 am, units from the Escondido Fire Department were dispatched to a reported multi-residential structure fire in the 2000 block of Grand Av. Initial reports from the Escondido Police Department arrived to find the interior of the occupancy charged with smoke and embers. The first arriving Engine Company upgraded the alarm to a working structure fire and pulled attack lines to the front door. Escondido Police Department assisted with evacuations of adjoining units.
Firefighters made access to the interior and found a fire in the bathroom extending to the hallway. They were able to quickly control and extinguish the fire within a few minutes and contained the fire damage to the bathroom. The main living area and bedrooms of the condo sustained minimal smoke damage. Firefighters remained on the scene, assisting the residents and conducting salvage and overhaul operations.
No civilians or Firefighters were injured during the fire. Five engines, two trucks, and two battalion Chiefs were assigned to the incident. The Escondido Police Department, San Marcos Fire Department, and SDG&E provided additional assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
