On February 17 at approximately 9:00 PM, units from the Escondido Fire Department were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Dos Hermanos Glen in the City of Escondido. The first arriving Engine Company reported a single-family home with a fire in the attached garage encroaching on the living area.
Firefighters attacked the garage fire while simultaneously entering the living area to prevent it from extending to the main structure. The fire was contained in approximately 30 minutes. Due to a heavy fire load, the garage and its contents sustained major damage. The living space received some fire damage; however, smoke and water damage were extensive.
Three adults were home at the time of the fire. All three were able to evacuate with assistance from neighbors. Two adults were evaluated by Escondido Fire Department Paramedics and transported to Palomar Medical Center with minor injuries. Unfortunately, the family's two dogs perished in the fire. No Firefighters were injured during the incident.
22 firefighters from the Escondido Fire Department responded to the fire. Officers from the Escondido Police Department and SDG&E staff provided additional assistance.
Safety message: Smoke alarms are inexpensive and provide early notice to occupants. Remember to check and maintain your smoke alarms.
